The bald eagle, the national bird of the United States of America is usually found near open bodies of water (due to the abundant supply of food) and old-growth forest. Fish represent its primary source of food. It prefers to nest in high, old-growth trees. These large birds can grow up to one meter long, have a wingspan of 2.40 m and weigh 7 kg. Interestingly, the females are generally much larger than the males. Eagles usually live to around twenty years and migrate when the water freezes.
